Over 100 years ago Scot John Muir took the concept of a National
Park to America to help establish the Yosemite National Park. Since
these early days the John Muir Trust has worked to protect areas
of Scotland such as the purchase of Ben Nevis.
About 50 years after the formation of the Yosemite Park in America
such parks were setup in England & Wales. Now the first National
Park in Scotland has been opened in the region of Loch Lommond and
the Trossachs, a second park is planned in the future for the Cairngorms.
The boundry of the park extends from Helensburgh near Glasgow in
the south, east to Callander and St Fillans, west to Tyndrum and
Lochgoilhead, and north to Killin and Glen Dochart.
