Wester Lix offers either wireless or cabled access to the Internet via Broadband (2Mb) at no additional charge.

What does this all mean ?

Basically a Windows PC or Apple Mac can be connected into our local network which then allows Internet access. The only pre requirement is that the computer must have an Ethernet network interface (NIC card) or needs to be Wireless enabled, both often standard features on a PC sold to the home market in recent years.

So you want to use this service but are not able to supply suitable PC ?, give us a call as we may be able to provide one - subject to availability.

Some assistance can be given with both Macs and PC's on or prior to your arrival to set up the connection, if you will be reliant on this service please arrange in advance to ensure we are available to help.

Connection by traditional telephone line is possible by arrangement but can only be offered at restricted times.

Techy bit.... The service only requires an RJ45 Ethernet or 802.11b/g interface and your TCP setting to be enabled for DHCP which is a default state for network connection. Setting up email collection from ISP's should not be a problem but special configuration to send to specific POP3 mail servers may be required but may not even be possible. For sending mail use of Web based mail such as Hotmail or Yahoo is recommenced. If setup prior to your stay many company mail systems allow your own email to be bounced to such an account. If unsure please check with us or your company in advance.

Legal bit... We operate a code of conduct when accessing our network and reserve the right to suspend a connection if the service is abused. It is the responsibility of the individual network users to use their own restrictions in accessing illicit or illegal material from the Internet as our network is unrestricted as far as the ISP. We cannot be held liable for any system or configuration changes made to guests computers or any impact on the performance or functionality of hardware during or following use at Wester Lix.

Computer and Internet Training Courses

By using the Internet access service we can include some basic training to get you going and answer queries as you go. But if you wish for something more formal how about expanding your stay to include Computer Basics and Internet Training course.
